Humpback Whale Awareness Month Get involved! The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary (sanctuary) announced February as Humpback Whale Awareness Month! One of 13 National Marine Sanctuaries in the U.S., the sanctuary is dedicated to protecting humpback whales and their habitat in Hawai‘i. Through outreach and education, the sanctuary hopes to increase public awareness of humpback whales, as well as increase public participation in their protection.
