Ocean Count Sites  

A counting station at the Kaka`ako site on O`ahu

A variety of sites are available for the Ocean Count on the islands of O`ahu, Hawai`i and Kaua`i. Amenities and facilities vary considerably from site to site, so please keep this in mind when choosing a location. The Sanctuary Ocean Count takes place on the islands of Hawai`i, Kaua`i, and O`ahu. The Ocean Count is also conducted on Kaho`olawe by the Kaho`olawe Island Reserve Commission.





Registration for the 2008 Sanctuary Ocean Count will begin in December of 2007. Site leaders will be selected in
November of 2007.

Big Island Shore Sites

20 sites will be offered on the Big Island. To register for a site on the Big Island, please contact the O`ahu Sanctuary office at their toll-free number: 1-888-55-WHALE ext. 253.

Kaho`olawe Shore Site

The Kaho`olawe Island Reserve Commission (KIRC) conducts the Sanctuary Ocean Count on Kaho`olawe. Volunteers cannot register for this site, but click here to find out more about the location that is used.

Kaua`i Shore Sites

16 sites will be offered on Kaua`i. Please contact the Kaua`i Sanctuary Office at 246-2860 or send an E-mail to: jean.souza@noaa.gov.

O`ahu Shore Sites

25 sites will be available on O`ahu. Some sites fill up quickly so we recommend that you contact our office as soon as you have a location in mind. For O`ahu sites, please call 397-2651 ext. 253.
