Terry has been actively involved with the ocean in Hawai`i for 25 years - as the focal point of his professional life and for personal recreation. He began scuba diving in South Dakota in 1965 and later founded what is now the oldest scuba diving business on Kaua`i. Terry was with Atlantis Adventures for over 12 years in a senior management positions and has served with numerous marine related organizations. He was the founding president of The Ocean Recreation Council of Hawai`i (TORCH) and Ocean and Marine Resources Council that developed the state’s first comprehensive ocean policy plan. He is currently a member of the University of Hawai`i Sea Grant Advisory Council. Most recently Terry has been invited to serve on the newly created Marine Protected Area Federal Advisory Committee, which will provide recommendations to the department of Commerce and Interior on marine protected areas with in the United States jurisdiction. Terry is a strong advocate of the sustainable marine environment for the benefit of future generations.

Jim has been playing an active role in protecting Hawai`i's marine environment for the past 23 years. He is on the Executive Board of Directors for the Hawai`i Visitors Bureau, the Maui Chamber of Commerce, and the Maui County Boat (MCBOAT). He is also a member of the Activity Owners Association and the Ma`alaea Boat and Fishing Club. Jim is a commercial fishermen and the owner/operator of Maui's oldest sail boat company. Jim was also the past Chairman of Governor Ariyoshi's Whale Advisory Committee.

Teri has been an active ocean user in Hawaii for the past 32 years and runs a successful ocean recreation business in Kona. She is a former president of The Ocean Recreation Council of Hawaii (TORCH) and is the current treasurer for the Hawaiian Island Recreational Scuba Association (HIRSA). She is committed to the preservation of our ocean environment and has been involved in the writing of several ocean-related laws over the past 15 years.

Bill recently retired as the technical director of the National Defense Center of Excellence for Research in Ocean Sciences (CEROS), a federally funded program for ocean technology development. He remains an advisor to CEROS and consultant on marine technology through BDI Maritime.  Bill is a charter member of the Society of Marine Mammalogy and co-author of a definitive acoustic study of whale distribution around Hawai`i. Since 1998, Bill has represented the O`ahu constituency on the Council. However, Bill believes that many important challenges remain, such as a complete census of the Sanctuary's humpback whale population and identification of the whales' critical habitat in Hawaiian waters. He also remains committed to applying the modern tools of passive acoustic monitoring to the study of whales and improving public awareness of matters critical to the well-being of humpback whales in Sanctuary waters.

Lou has been studying Hawai`i's humpback whales since 1975. He presented the first aircraft survey of whales in Penguin Bank off Maui in 1976 and was the first scientist to identify the unique phenomenon of a third whale accompanying a mother-calf pair, which was termed "escort whale." Lou is the founder of the Kewalo Basin Marine Mammal Laboratory and the co-founder and president of The Dolphin Institute. Their humpback whale research has been carried out in Southeast Alaska and Japan, as well as throughout the Hawaiian Islands.

Kimokeo is the recipient of the 2005 Volunteer of the Year Award from the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation.  He has continuously worked with Ao’ao O Na Loko I’a Maui (Maui Association of Fishponds), which is restoring the wall on the historic Ko’ie’ie Fishpond in Kihei that connects with the Sanctuary’s Maui site.  He also has been involved in Hawaiian cultural education projects with the sanctuary, working with student groups in studying traditions such as the Hawaiian system of ahupua`a.

Marc is the President and Research Director of Oceanwide Science Institute, a Hawaii based non-profit organization dedicated to marine research and the conservation of Hawaii’s marine environment.  He is also a post-doctoral fellow at the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology in Kaneohe, Hawaii.  Marc’s primary areas of expertise are marine bioacoustics and the behavior and ecology of marine mammals.  His work presently ranges in scope from behavioral and acoustic research with spinner dolphins and humpback whales, to studying the midwater biomass of atolls and small islands in the Pacific using ship-based echosounders.   Marc is also the author of numerous scientific publications and is the current Chair of the Sanctuary Advisory Council’s Research Committee.

Cheryl works as an Economic Development Specialist for the County of Maui, coordinating grants for community-based tourism programs funded through the Hawaii Tourism Authority.  Her work provides continual contact with community members and local issues.  An avid ocean swimmer, she has been observing coral reefs, their inhabitants, and water quality for the past 13 years on Maui, and for 4 years prior in the US Virgin Islands.  She supports strong protection of the marine environment to preserve its diverse species and sustainable use for future generations.

Sara has been the West Hawai`i UH Sea Grant Extension Service Agent since 1996. Prior to that she worked as an Education Specialist for UH Sea Grant. Her mission is to develop consensus within the West Hawai`i community with respect to the sustainable management of ocean and marine resources. Sara strives to accomplish that mission using education an outreach tools over the years including ReefTalf, ReefTeach, AlohaKai, Reef Watchers, and has helped to establish the West Hawaii Fishery Council as conduits to education and outreach.

Don received a general engineering degree from Stanford University and has enjoyed challenging experiences in the commercial and recreational marine industry ever since.  He has been responsible for design, engineering, product development, and manufacturing with Hatteras Yachts, Chris-Craft, and US Marine.  Don currently owns and operates Ocean Frontier, LLC, a company dedicated to successful management of complex, highly technical projects.  He continues a lifelong interest in the study and conservation of marine resources, also serving on the Marine and Coastal Zone Advocacy Council of Hawai`i’s Costal Zone Management program.

Cindy has been a biologist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers since 1994 and part of Honolulu District since 2002.  She holds a B.A. in Archaeology from U.C. Eric was born on Kauai and has lived on four of the Hawaiian Islands.  He received a BS in Biology from Lewis and Clark College and a Masters degree in Public Administration-Environmental Ocean Policy from UH Manoa.  He has previously worked as a naturalist aboard tour boats in Maui and as a fish and wildlife biologist for the US Coast Guard Office of Law Enforcement.  Currently, Eric is the NEPA (National Environmental Protection Act) Coordinator for WPRFMC.
