Maritime Heritage Program

Though the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary focuses on marine mammals, the National Marine Sanctuary Program is ideally suited to contribute both to the maritime heritage needs of the sanctuary and to assist with the resource inventory of the State, raising awareness of these unique resources among Hawai`i's beautiful ocean waters.

Maritime Heritage Program, created in 2002, is an initiative of the National Marine Sanctuary Program. The program focuses on maritime heritage resources within the sanctuary system and also promotes maritime heritage appreciation throughout the entire nation.
