Ocean Awareness Training - Maui and O`ahu
Ocean Awareness Training offers the public, naturalists, volunteers and marine tour operators on Maui and O`ahu the essential interpretive skills and content necessary to be prepared to educate Hawai‘i visitors about marine resources in Hawai‘i.
The course includes information on nearshore oceanographic processes, roles and relationships on the reef, seabirds, marine mammals, sea turtles, ocean safety, Hawaiian culture and more. A variety of ocean organizations on Maui and O`ahu work together to sponsor this informative program.
Each workshop is designed to provide outreach tools and resources. It covers the basics for anyone on the water or onshore that talks with the public or visitors about ocean resources. This training provides a foundational knowledge base for those employed in the marine recreation industry, community volunteers, or just anyone who wants to learn more about the marine environment in Hawai`i.
Space is limited and sessions are offered at various locations and times throughout the year.
