February was proclaimed Humpback Whale Month in Hawai`i by Governor Lingle and Lt. Governor Aiona! View the official proclamation.
The special statewide campaign aimed to increase awareness about the sanctuary and humpback whales while offering the public a chance to get involved in whale season.
~ Just for Kids! Kids were invited to participate in the 2009 Humpback Whale Month Ocean Contest and become members of the Ocean Guardian Kids Club.

~ Local libraries offered informational materials on humpback whales as well as a list of recommended books on humpback whales and the ocean. Students were asked to write a story and enter the Ocean Contest (see above). Download the special Humpback Whale Month logo bookmark.
